As part of its broader initiatives to recognize Small Business Month, Ownr is working with The Welcome Market to support this important platform for the Toronto small business community.
By continuously hosting a diverse range of vendors, The Welcome Market is rooted in reinforcing the intersection between community and representation. With Ownr’s upcoming collaboration, the roster will include new and returning businesses offering vintage and handmade goods.
As small business owners work with limited time and resources, they are increasingly dependent on platforms like The Welcome Market to scale their business. In fact, Ownr’s recent survey found that 44 per cent of entrepreneurs want to level up customer attraction efforts.
“Platforms like The Welcome Market are integral to enabling meaningful touchpoints between small businesses and customers,” says Jordan Casey, CEO, Ownr. “Ownr is committed to working with organizations that foster the long-term growth of the local small business community.”
Much like a significant segment of small business owners, Cindy Chau, founder of The Welcome Market, started her business as a side hustle. The Welcome Market offers a channel for other small business owners who operate as side hustles to create customer demand and gauge the viability of the business - all without vendor fees.
“Local markets like ours offer a space for small businesses to help generate sales, connect with like-minded entrepreneurs, and engage with customers in person. With this in mind, it was also important for us to prioritize inclusivity in how we curated the retail experience,” says Chau. “We’re proud to be collaborating with Ownr to continue building inclusive spaces where small business owners have an opportunity to thrive.”
The Welcome Market is proudly a Woman, POC owned and operated organization.
Cindy's a small business owner who has a passion for the hustle and a love for supporting local, small businesses.
This market aims to create a curated retail pop-up experience and to add more opportunities to for Toronto small businesses to connect with customers in-person and network with other like-minded entrepreneurs.
The Welcome Market started from a small market of 7 vendors to a market that has hosted over 60 local brands and artists - and the list keeps on growing!!💗💗
As an extension to The Welcome Market, I recently acquired a 2nd floor ~3,000 sq ft studio space on Dupont that I’ve turned into studio spaces for folks looking for an affordable space to focus on their business while surrounding yourself with likeminded creatives/entrepreneurs in the market scene.
Similar to the markets we love to host, we want this workspace to continue to foster community, inclusion while helping to excel your business.
I’ve always wanted to create a similar studio space I worked in while attending my Fine Arts program. Seeing the potential for others to be inspired by the ones working around them cultivates the possibility of collaboration and helps elevate/create new skills beneficial to your brand/business.
